Promise
Place [formerly known as The Fayette County
Council on Domestic Violence] was established in 1989 as
a private 501(c)3 nonprofit organization to serve domestic
violence victims and their families in the Griffin Judicial circuit, which include Fayette, Spalding, Pike, and Upson Counties. Services for children were added in 1996.
Promise Place is a non-governmental agency and is the sole provider of
comprehensive services to adult victims of domestic violence
and sexual assault within the Griffin Judicial circuit, which include Fayette, Spalding, Pike, and Upson Counties.
In just fifteen years Promise
Place has grown from a small, grassroots
organization to an active, community recognized agency with
5 paid staff members and over 50 active volunteers.
DOMESTIC
VIOLENCE IS NOT JUST A FAMILY MATTER:
IT AFFECTS EVERYONE!
Annual health care costs of treatment of injuries due to
domestic violence are estimated to be between FIVE
and TEN BILLION dollars. Four and a half BILLION
dollars are lost nationally in time domestic violence victims
miss due to injuries.
Children
in homes where domestic violence occurs are physically abused
or neglected at a rate of 150% higher than the national
average.
